Each composition by Javid Ilham revolves around characters inspired by real people he has encountered in one way or another. In his practice, the canvas functions as a tool of transformation: real-life prototypes are isolated and reimagined as entirely new figures, while the outcome of their narrative remains open even to the artist himself. Through ‘Fragile’, Javid reflects on memory, time, and fate. In this work, fiery lines of the horizon frame a young man, whose smile captures a moment of farewell to the past. Reflected in his glasses is the path that lies ahead for him and for the “fragile” box containing his personal belongings, and lived experiences. Focused on the possibility of a fresh start, he holds the box and gazes forward.
