Farah Piriye Coene on Curating

Farah Piriye Coene on Curating, Borders and ‘AS ABOVE, SO BELOW’ at La Biennale di Venezia 2026

In the latest episode of FORA Dialogues, we are joined by Farah Piriye Coene, independent curator, art consultant, cultural producer, and co-founder of Zeitgeist19. Her work examines the interdependence of environmental and social systems, grounded in cross-border exchange and attentive to the intersections of history, migration, memory, identity, and ecology.

From her early experiences, co-curating the solo exhibition of Tahir Salahov in London to large-scale projects connecting art, science, and environmental thought, Farah reflects on curating as a practice of building bridges across borders, histories, and systems of knowledge.

Our conversation moves through her key projects and ideas: from ‘Fragile Frontiers’, and the underrepresented histories of Azerbaijani nonconformist artists to ‘AS ABOVE, SO BELOW’, the upcoming collateral event of the 61st International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, unfolding on the Island of Giudecca.

Tune in as our conversation navigates questions of ecology and collective memory, exploring how curatorial practice can create new forms of connection, and how contemporary art can reshape the ways we know and relate to the world around us.
