‘Childhood Memory’ depicts three female figures rendered entirely in red, overlapping one another, with their elongated bodies and long black hair forming a continuous composition. Their features remain deliberately restrained: almond-shaped eyes, narrow faces, and gazes directed away from the viewer place the figures within their own shared space. The figures’ long dark hair occupies much of the canvas, extending around their bodies and across the composition, as one figure reaches toward the hair of another. This gesture establishes a physical connection between the women from the artist’s community, highlighting the care and proximity embedded in their shared experience. As in Zakirova’s other representations of women, the figures rarely meet the viewer’s gaze directly. Instead, they look slightly away, occupying a state of peripheral awareness. In this collective composition, the repeated red figures, long dark hair, and overlapping forms create an atmosphere of communal witnessing and shared knowledge.
