Zohrab Salam-zadeh Dust of centuries (2023) framed: 130h × 50w cm Oil & Acrylic on canvas
The composition is centered on a solitary figure, a dervish sitting on a sealed box. Salam-zadeh constructs the scene with theatrical precision, transforming the background into a deep, nocturnal sky. Above the figure, planets from the solar system are arranged like stage props, each one tethered by thin cords. In his hands, the dervish holds a dust-covered Moon, which he cleans with deliberate care. Conceived by the artist as a container for a black hole, the box introduces a conceptual tension that contrasts with the lightness of the floating planets above. Around the dervish’s neck hangs a key. His posture is grounded, legs comfortably crossed, suggesting ease and focus. The eyes, however, disrupt this calm. Different in color and steady in their gaze, his eyes draw the viewer into a quiet confrontation that implies knowledge just beyond reach.
This artwork is an original piece and has been personally signed by the artist.
