Niyaz Najafov Flowers in Vase (2024)
framed: 195h × 114w cm
Oil on canvas

The canvas is striking in both its scale, and the intricacy of its composition. At its center is a curious vase, recalling in form an early experiment with glassblowing, somewhere between a chalice and a goblet. Its contoured silhouette is delineated by curved white lines, visually anchoring the object within the space. Surrounding it, the background dissolves into a near-hypnotic field, a realm emptied of all but the vase and its flowers, suspended in a moment of full bloom. For Niyaz Najafov, lines are a primary mode of communication; they serve as both structure and language.
