Javid Ilham The window was no help (2025)
Suspended within a fractured field, the central figure is captured mid-fall, his body stretched across the composition in a state of visible strain. Glass shards surround him, spread as remnants of the window he has just passed through. Above, a single rose descends, isolated against a sky saturated with reds and pinks. The moment is held in tension, where motion is prolonged and the outcome remains open. The figure’s body is rendered in muted greys, detached from the chromatic intensity of the background. To one side, a building facade appears, its windows reflecting only the sky, withholding any interior. The figure’s gaze meets the viewer directly, steady and unsettled, establishing a point of contact within an otherwise dislocated scene. We see how time fractures, standing in between before and after.
