Sahar Ghavami A fleeting moment (2025)

Acrylic on canvas
encadré : 120h × 90l cm

'A fleeting moment' is structured around parallel conditions of vulnerability. As the artist recalls, the encounter occurred at a point when a small bunny “had a broken paw. I had a body at war with itself. Neither of us was in any condition to take on more”. The bunny, rescued exactly one year prior to the painting, is rendered as a fragile, doll-like figure. As Ghavami notes, “to adopt her was a risk my illness could not easily afford, but some things bypass reason entirely - she needed someone, and something in me that was still whole answered”. Details such as the stitched limb and the echinacea stem, its petals beginning to fall, register health issues and processes of recovery and decline. The work situates injury within a shared field of experience, where healing and loss unfold at different speeds. The painting is closely tied to a broader shift in Ghavami’s life and practice following the onset of a severe autoimmune condition, which has imposed limits on sustained physical contact and care.
