Javid Ilham Labyrinth (2024)
framed: 100h × 100w cm
Oil on canvas

A grid-like structure spans the surface, recalling a window or glass partition segmented into rigid blocks. Beyond it, is a vast blue sky, covered by sharply defined clouds in vivid orange. The structure does not fully separate foreground from background; instead, it organizes the view, fragmenting the field into contained units, allowing the sky to remain visible through its divisions. A figure occupies the composition with eyes closed, head slightly tilted upward, traces of tears visible. His features, clearly articulated, are not independent from the surrounding field. The same tonal register extends across his skin and the sky, dissolving distinctions between body and space. In this alignment, the figure appears less as a subject set against the scene than as part of it.
