Sahar Ghavami I carry it, softly (2025)
framed: 120h × 90w cm
Acrylic on canvas

As the artist notes, “Some loves are not safe to hold too close. And yet - they reach for you anyway”. 'I carry it, softly' centers on this contradiction, where attachment persists despite the limits imposed on it. At the center of the composition, a small white cat is held in cupped hands, “like something between a heartbeat and a star”. Set against the dark, its scale and luminosity concentrate the image, drawing the figure toward it. The pull is immediate, almost physical, as the body inclines toward contact. As Ghavami suggests, this is “a love made complicated by a body that cannot always afford it”, positioning care in complicated extent. The gesture of holding is therefore calibrated. It is a controlled proximity, that the artist describes as “the tenderness of holding something precious at a careful distance”.
